Day 6

This morning we got up as the sun was rising. We went to pick up our picnic breakfast at the lodge before we headed into the park. There was a small queue, while waiting for the park to open, while the sun was slowly rising.

The first stop was Deadvlei. On the way to the vlei there is a a dune called Dune 45, which is awesome to climb (I did it in 2004), but unfortunately we didn’t have time and there were so many people on the dune. Deadvlei was amazing! The white vlei with dead trees scattered in it with the red sand dunes around and the blue sky above. We where aloud to drive to a certain point and then we had to get a shuttle into the vlei, because we didn’t have a 4×4. While we were waiting we had some of our breakfast.

Midday we went to Sesriem Canyon, it was beautiful but was so hot. Drinking warm water is not nice. After the canyon we went to the petrol station to buy food and water. I have never knew ice cold water could taste so good:) Then late afternoon we went to have drinks by the pool. It was beautiful. That evening we had a braai at our tent and did some more drinking.

Day 5

This morning we left early, because it was very windy and there was sandy blowing across the road. It got quite scary, but I trusted Kieron’s driving. Then we set off the long dirty road to  Sossusvlei. We arrived at our location called Desert Camp for 2 nights. It was self catering and we didn’t really plan for it, but at least there was a petrol station, which had everything in it. Including alcohol!:) We drove 400 km that day and my little car made it! The scenery was amazing and we barely saw anyone along the way, except gemsbok. It was lovely. We decided to book a picnic breakfast  for the next day for Sossusvlei, because we had to get up really early to go through the park. Then we went swimming late this afternoon, because it was so hot! Then went back to the tent for a light dinner and drinks and bed. DSCN4467 DSC_0095

Day 4

This morning we woke up early, had breakfast and headed for the ghost town tour at 9:30 am. It all began when they found diamonds here in 1908. The town declined after World War 1. It was abandoned in 1954. It was freaky, but very interesting. The town suddenly appears out of no where, when you drive round the corner. They also had a bowling alley, which was restored. That evening we went to a beautiful church called Felsenkirche, which over looks Luderitz on Diamond Hill. The church was built in 1911 and is known for its stained glass windows. It was really windy on top of the Diamond Hill and Kieron was scared that I would fly off the cliff. The only place that I have seen wind like is in Cape Town during the South Easter.

Day 2

We must have woken up at a reasonable good time because the sun was steaming through the curtains. I eventually got up and made tea, we had a shower. We went to have breakfast and came back to our room to pack up. I had to drive through the border post, because it was my car. It wasn’t too far to the South African and Namibian border so I wasn’t too phased. I was still very impressed that my car made it this far.

I drove for a an hour or so and then Kieron took over. He then drove to our overnight stay. Our destination was near the Fish River Canyon. Called the Canon Road house. It was awesome!:) The Fish River Canyon was amazing!! My little car actually made it to the Canyon and back to the Roadhouse on a dust road with a gradient which was good at all!

Day 0

Let me start from the beginning. Saturday late afternoon I married my best friend, love of my life Kieron Thwaites. It was the most amazing day of my life! So technically my honeymoon started that evening. I knew where we were going on honeymoon, but I didn’t know the itinerary. So I first night on honeymoon was staying at the City Lodge (near Pinelands). He wanted to book the Vineyard but half of England was down in Cape Town for the South Africa vs England cricket tour. The City Lodge was really nice and fine with me. It was only for a night after all.

Day 1

We left the City Lodge after breakfast around 10:00 am. We then fulled up with petrol and pick up some bottled water. We then took the drive to Springbok for the night. We are driving in my Nissan Micra (Ron’s car broke down a week before the wedding).

Day 17 1/2/2015

We woke up early to head for the Cango Caves so we could get on a tour. Afterwards we had breakfast. Then we head into town to find the Suspension bridge. As a kid I used to walk across it with my family. My dad used to walk across it during the army on Sundays. So after taking some photos, we headed off to the unknown. Quick stop at “Ronnie’s Sex Shop” for lunch.

Day 15 30/1/2015

This morning we had to get up very early to head to Colesberg. Our first stop was breakfast and then Golden Gate, Free State. Then later in the day we stop in LadyBrand for lunch. My mom’s family grew up there so we went down memory lane. I had to show Kieron where I had many holidays as a kid. We also had to stop by Top House, which was the first house built in LadyBrand. My mom’s grandfather owned. Also we had to visit the family plot in the graveyard. Annual tradition. We evenually got to Colesview, Colesberg where we were going to stay for the night.

Day 14 29/1/2015

To be honest I don’t really remember what we did this day. I think most of the day was getting ready to leave early the next day for the long trip home. We might have gone out for dinner for the last night together.

Tomorrow we have to leave very early to get to Colesberg before dark.
