Hermanus – 2013

4/8/2013

This morning we woke up, had a late brunch of eggs, bacon, cereal, crumpets, tea and hot chocolate. Then we decided to shower, pack up and head for a few more hours on the town.

I decided to come back for our bags because I refused to park with a car full of stuff. To be honest all I wanted to do was go back to that 2nd hand book shop. So we drove into town and then we headed off to see if we can try and spot some whales (which we did). So then Tam and I headed off to the 2nd hand book store for a while and made a place where we would meet Simone and Robyn up later. Ok we did miss some awesome whale scenes. Unfortunately my camera decided to make the battery not last. So we didn’t manage to take any and my phone camera doesn’t zoom in or out:(

So we fooled around a bit as you can see.

Then after a couple of hours we headed back to the car, drove to the cottage and packed the car. I wanted to be on the road by 2.30 pm and we managed to leave a bit early so we made good time. On the way home we took the coastal road which was beautiful! Even though it is a bit longer than the pass. Had a late lunch stop in Strand, because after the driving I need coffee. So this one BP had a Seattle coffee place. So stopped there. I love driving but it is very tiring though.

So we got back around 5:00 pm and I dropped everyone off at the selected homes and headed back home myself to unpack and get get ready for my dinner out.

So I am hoping there will be another adventure to blog about. So watch this space!

This morning after picking up Tam and the twins we managed to hit the freeway at 10:00 am. Which was excellent timing. It was awesome driving on the freeway at 120 kilometers with music blaring! The next stop was a petrol garage for a Wimpy coffee (which was so needed).

Then after that back on the road to Hermanus we go. We entered Hermanus and drove to the place where we were staying which is about two roads down from the mountain. So after we settled in we decided to go and walk the town and find some lunch, have ice cream and raid the awesome 2nd handbook store. Then afterwards we went to drive to the main beach Grotto Beach (Where I spent most of my childhood).

Then once it started to get late in the afternoon we drove back and had tea and talked. Then I decided to climb the tree. I must admit I loved been with my friends but I did miss my boyfriend a lot.

We decided to go for a walk around the blocks and make sure we didn’t get lost in the process.  After our walk around we came back and cooked supper which consisted of chicken burgers and salad. Mean while I managed to get the radio working but not the CD player section.

Afterwards we played RummiKub and I did win twice. While we had pudding of custard, dark chocolate, popcorn and tin fruit. We had too much sugar. But when ones friends start singing “Bob the Builder” then there are problems. It was really funny though.

It was so weird been back here. Had so many memories here in Hermanus with the Bendens when we were children. Going to see if I can go and find there old house tomorrow.

Zambia – Victoria Falls

14/7/2013

Today is out last day here is Zambia (I am pretty sure it is in the same line as Egypt and that is saying something coming from me). We woke up early and had our last breakfast (my mom and sister can certainly do with a break from the waffles) 😉 So after breakfast we went see knife cutting edge and put on our raincoats to get wet my the waterfall for the last time. Then around 10:00 am we went back to our rooms to pack and leave our hotel by 11:00 am a shuttle took us to the airport. The airport is so small and they are so freaked out about security we had to go through customs twice! Then we had to walk to our plane and we our seats where at the back of the aircraft. So we had a horrible taking off and it felt like my stomach was dropping sometimes. Landing was very smooth in Johannesburg even though we nearly missed our flight to Cape Town. Anyway BA messed up my meals again on the way down. The joy! So had to eat wheat the whole day. Once we landed in Johannesburg got our bags and basically ran across the airport, quickly check in and ran through customs luckily we made it to the line. So we weren’t really late just made it for the last boarding.

It felt so good to be going home. I had such an awesome holiday and this is something I will never forget.

Here is for the next adventure!:D

Last full day in Zambia. Walked down to the Boiling Pot this morning and went half way across the boarder post of Zimbabwe, we got a bridge pass because one can walk half way across the bridge until one has to go through passport control and get passports stamped. Seriuously I took too many photos. Then after been hot and tired we walked back to the resort for lunch and a cold beer.

It is sad that it is our last day but I am going back to an awesome semester, seeing my gran, Dan, Zoe and baby Harry. Oh, and going home to an amazing boyfriend! I cant wait to see him. It is so beautiful here.

Going on 2 sunset cruises for sun downers later this afternoon. The sunset cruises where amazing! Drinking wine and taking photos of hippos, crocodiles and birds. It was stunning and got some awesome pics.

Got back to the resort around 7:45 pm and had supper. My last pudding for the month!

Afterwards went to check Facebook and then headed off too bed early.

Zambia – Victoria Falls

12/7/2013

This morning after breakfast we went on a boat trip to Livingstone Island. Left from the Royal Livingstone Hotel. We had to wear raincoats, because we were right by the falls and we got soaked! We had to walk through mud bare foot! The rainbow was amazing, such an experience! We had lunch on the island afterwards (it was early lunch) and then got back to the main land around 1:00 pm.

Spent the afternoon chilling, buying copper bracelets. At around 3:30 pm went to the Royal Livingstone Hotel for high tea, awesome but never again! We walked there and back amongest the Impala. At around 6:30 pm went to use the internet and get onto Facebook to answer messages.

Zambia – Victoria Falls

11/7/2013

This morning we woke up early for breakfast. This place is beautiful! Soon we heading out to see the Victoria Falls and to get wet.

We had to put on these long yellow rain coat (Harry Potter style as my sister put it). We walked across the bridge in the mist and spray of the waterfall, it felt like rain. It is amazing and I got soaked, but dry on the inside. I took so many photos, its hard to explain if one hasn’t been there.

Afterwards we just chilled and read. Then we went to have lunch  by the pool and afterwards my mom and I walked around. Later Graeme went on a microlight and everyone went with him so I had sometime by myself to write and read by the pool. Only wrote about two pages though.

Managed to get on the hotel internet this evening. One get the first 15 mins for free until then one has to pay and I didn’t want my dad to pay my internet bill. Because everything is double there. Example Zambia Kwacha Kr18 then it would be R36. Like Ciders where kr 36 at the hotel so it would have been R72! It was like wow!!

So this morning we left Cape Town at the crack of dawn to fly to Zambia. Our flight left at 7:30 am (Don’t ask) so we left home at 5:30 am to be at Cape Town International Airport for our two hour flight to Johannesburg. Then a connecting flight to Livingstone, Zambia for 5 days. The flights weren’t too bad. Landing in Livingstone was kind of painful. I hate landing with a passion. So then they mucked up my dietary requirements. Luckily for breakfast on the way to Johannesburg I got a meal from business class which had no wheat in it.

Landing in Livingstone was interesting because the airport was so tiny, but they are building a new one. Its such a weird town. A typical town in Africa.

We got a shuttle to the hotel which was the Zambezi Sun (3 star). Next door hotel was the Royal Livingstone Hotel (4 star). We check in had lunch by the pool and then unpacked.

The Victoria Falls has only one word to it “Amazing!” We didn’t get too close because one has to wear rain coats because the spray is so strong.

I then managed to have some alone time with my music and writing.

Then at 6:30 pm we went to supper (3 course meal buffet) and then after supper we turned in early.

Franschhoek – Road Trip

16/6/2013

That morning started with a rough start meaning that I went to fill my car up with petrol and my card declined so my dad had to come and pay for it. Luckily he also gave me so money. Not working for a living is so painful actually working and not getting paid is even worse.

Anyway Tam and I drove to Franschhoek for the day to see the Huguenot Museum and spend so time in the village, well technically it is a small town. I love that place.

We drove straight to the Museum but sadly it only opened on a Sunday and Public Holiday from 14:00 to 15:00 pm. So it was around lunch time we drove back up the main road, parked and walked to every book shop and every chocolate shop there have. Then we found a coffee shop and had lunch and around 14:00 we walked to the Museum. This town is were my ancestors come from. In the museum there is a list of names of French people that came out from France. There were two Gabriel Le Roux and Jean Le Roux who were brothers whom came out at the same time in around the time of 1688 by ship. Escaping the French Revolution.

Before we went into the museum we went to the graveyard next door. There were so many Le Rouxs, Du Toits, Oliviers, etc. It was quite amazing. It makes me proud that I some of my ancestors are probably in this graveyard. I find it fascinating! So many names.

After the museum (well technically there are two). We decided to go and have coffee and cake for a late tea before heading back to Cape Town. I love driving long distances it an

Today was another chilled day. Sky was beautiful as always. The light blue sky on the red rocks was stunning! This is truly my home away from home.

My parents and Godfery left early this morning to go hiking for about 8 hours.

So the students (meaning Tam and I) started studying this morning and Lara and Sandy went off somewhere else. Goodness knows where.

Before lunch we went for a walk and then came across Lara and Sandy climbing mountains! They really have a habit of disappearing and climbing rocks and doing weird things.

Around midday we lunch with Shelia and Lara and Sandy which was left overs. Then it was back to the books by this time the wind had picked up and the clouds had come over so we had to go inside when our pages started blowing all over the place.

Around 2:00 pm which this time the hikers where meant to be back. Shelia came to us in our cottage and asked if we wanted to come with her to look for them. So we all jumped into her car and drove to Driehoek (Where they started out) and on the way it began to rain.

We waited and waited for them and when it started to storm it go quite worrying. I did not want to lose my parents to the mountain. I was losing my grandmother I didn’t want to lose my parents as well.

After a while we decided to leave a note on the car in a plastic bag and leave to go back to Sanddrift. While driving back we someone waving to us on the side of the road and it was Godfery so we slowed down and stopped the car so he could jump in. After bombarding him with questions he explained to us what happened. How they got down to far from where the car was parked so they had to catch a lift with someone. My mom was back at the cottages and my dad was been dropped off at the car park by this guy. So we just had to wait forever for my dad to drive up.

To cut the story short at long last we drove back to the cottage and met my mom and the girls. Then my mom explained exactly what happened.

That night we cracked another bottle of champagne, had soup and lit a nice warm fire.

Another adventure done and dusted. We never have a dull moment with the Pauls and the Normans.
